Match Report

The game we had been looking forward to finally arrived – 1st versus 2nd. Numbers depleted to the bare 11. The casualties being – Noddy (knee), Intensity (knee), Swinger (suspended), Swervin (BBQ duties). Fortunately the 5’s played before us and were able to provide a bit of help with Trigger and Mark backing up – thanks boys.

The first 15 minutes or so was a battle for control that neither side really gained. Both teams had a few half chances until Scotland gave a Jamo player a bit of a bump and a penalty was given. Ipswich and Roberto applied the now expected sledging but this week it was dispatched just beating Leeds dive. 1-0 down’.

An equaliser came a few minutes later. Calls for off side were waived away and La Celeste coolly passed the ball into the net. 1 each.

As we stood waiting for a Jamo goal kick, Gazza belted a rallying call. Something along the lines of ‘Come on Woodies. You’re playing at a much higher level than the Fed days now mate!’

The pump up clearly confused the boys as a few minutes later we found ourselves 2-1 down after a scramble in the box led to the Jamo forward poking home.

Half time came and we were upbeat despite being behind. Keep at it, close them down and the chances will come.

We started getting on top in the second half and a long range effort from Woodie was not held by the keeper and La Celeste nipped in to nod into the net. 2 each.

We had a few more chances as we dominted for long periods. Jamo were given a real chance after a pass back to Roberto went through to Leeds who picked it up. Indirect free kick 8 yards out. Fortunately the wall did its job and the ball was cleared. With less than 10 on the clock, The Kaiser knocked another great ball over the top and La Celeste completed his hat trick with a dink over the advancing Jamo keeper. 3-2. As Chop Chop described it ‘it looked beautiful from the back’. You’re not wrong.

A tense last few minutes until the final whistle came. A cracking game played hard but fairly by both teams.

After the game we learnt that Swinger was back next week. Thank goodness, I can’t write serious match reports too often!
