Match Report |
With a full team, we employed a new sub rotation system to try and keep the team structure. It worked well and, for me, this was the best we have played as a team this season. Aiden was goalkeeper for the first half and did very well, especially with his goal kick clearances. Ash was asked to play as the centre forward for the first time this season and had a terrific half, scoring one and having a couple of shots go close – one rasper from about 15 yards out that hit the corner framework of the goal. Arwen had a superb first half clearly showing great development as a player – on a number of occasions making the right decision between clearing the ball quickly (when under immediate pressure) or literally putting her foot on the ball, getting her head up and calmly passing to a team mate. On one such occasion, passing to Maeve who did the same, to put one of the boys away for goal. Con was unlucky not to score from Riley’s corner, hitting the ball over the bar on the volley. Riley scored a real striker’s goal sliding in to dink it past the keeper. In the second half, the Cougars were much stronger and we had to defend a lot. Fin was in goal and was very solid. James and Con had a turn at defending and did really well against a team that got stronger the more the game went on. Con took a number of corners in the second half, crossing the ball consistently well but also varying it up with a short corner to Maeve on one occasion. Kane played up front and was rewarded with a goal following up Con’s long range shot. A game of two halfs. The first one we were able to control, passed the ball beautifully and had plenty of good shots. The second half we defended and scrapped as the Cougars got more into it and we got a late goal as a reward for that effort. Well done kids, a very proud coach! |
