Match Report | Backs Tom, Liam, Ben, Steve and Mitchell H were holding strong against Cranebrook’s fast forwards with goalkeeper James confidently taking the ball and clearing well. Nick, Tim, Mitchell H, Sarah and Otis ran well in midfield to provide good service to forwards Rachel, Will and Aden. After an even first 10 minutes, Rachel took the ball down the left wing with her pace beating the Cranebrook defenders and enabling her to come into the penalty area where the goalkeeper reached but could not stop her strong shot. 4 minutes later at the other end goalkeeper James came out of his goal to smother a shot from a breakaway Cranebrook forward. Then Blue Mountains came close twice in the following 4 minutes with Sarah providing a centre after good combination with Rachel on the left flank, and Rachel shooting just wide after a cross from Nick. But in the following minute Cranebrook forward was able to elude his marker for once to equalise. The remaining 10 minutes of the first half saw Will and Otis combining well on the right to win a corner, Mitchell H shooting just wide after a goalmouth melee and Steve’s shot being blocked after good work on the left flank by Will and Aden. But the scores remained level at the break. The second half started with more Blue Mountains attacks with Will and Aden combining well on the left to win a corner. But after 13 minutes it was Cranebrook who scored against the run of play after an intercepted goal kick caught James out of position. This lead lasted only 4 minutes, with a throw-in finding Steve who outran the Cranebrook defence and shot strongly to score from close range. The next 5 minutes saw good work on the flanks win two more Blue Mountains corners as BM pushed for a winner, but then Cranebrook came close with James again running out to foil a forward who had got through the BM defence. A minute after this, with only 2 more minutes to go, Otis scored a fine individual goal, winning the ball outside the penalty area, chipping over a defender and beating another to score with a strong close range shot. Blue Mountains continued to attack, with Rachel winning a corner and Steve having a shot saved on the line for another corner. |
