Match Report

We knew that anything other than a loss by 4 or more goals would be enough to get us into the Grand Final. With our home ground advantage lost due to re-scheduling, we arrived early at St Clair. We warmed up and realised there was no ref for our game. Not wanting to play without a decent official, phone calls were made by both teams until a local State League ref was found. Each half was reduced by 5 minutes due to the delay, which suited us.

We started with 12 but a number of players were carrying an injury. La Celeste was back after more than a month out but still nowhere near 100%; The Kaiser and Roberto were also struggling and Choppy was banned after his fracas with those nice fellas from St Marys last week. We got ourselves in front after Ipswich’s cross was half cleared to Swervin to ping it back in for The Kaiser to finish first time from just inside the 18 yard box. Unfortunately Swervin did his quad crossing the ball and was to play no further part in the game.

Cranebrook had a few chances and equalised courtesy of a Roberto oggy after a scramble in the 6 yard box. A few long range efforts from Gazza went close but it stayed 1 all until half time.

The second half was largely played at our end of the park as Cranbrook came at us again and again. Leeds made a number of fantastic saves and the whole team battled and scrambled like their lives depended on it. We had a few chances ourselves – Gazza’s free kick being tipped over; La Celeste’s header from a corner going the same way. No more goals though- we were through to the final.
