Match Report |
After last week’s loss, we were looking to steady the ship away to the Woodies. With a number of players still carrying an injury, El Capitano called in the Big Gun. After 5 weeks out with injury and feeling rather seedy after a big Saturday night, we knew it was important not to hassle The Hoff. The Hoff slotted beautifully back into the centre of defence alongside Roberto, even venturing forward at one point to unleash a piledriver of a shot that was well saved. In what Swervin described from the sideline as ‘worthy of note in the match report’, Ipswich guided the ball over the fullbacks’ head for La Celeste, who dinked it under the advancing keeper. 1-0 and so it stayed until half-time. Springwood kept themselves in the game in the second half with some great defending. We created chances but could not find the killer second goal. With 15 to go both La Celeste and Gazza went off with calf and thigh injuries respectively, adding further to the injury list. Fortunately we didn’t look like conceding but were still very happy to hear the final whistle. After the game, The Hoff gathered us round like Boy Scouts listening to Arkala at the camp fire. We sat, legs crossed, chin resting on our hands and listened to The Hoff regale us with yarns from years gone by. My personal favourite was when The Hoff reached for the wallet from his bag and then pulled out a photo of himself in his prime. The Hoff told us how pre-season training used to entail swimmimg laps across Glenbrook Lagoon. |
