Connor Ansell

As most of us now know, Connor, one of our U9 "little superstars" from last year, is currently being treated for leukaemia, after being diagnosed last Christmas Eve.  To help raise funds for the Leukaemia Foundation, his dad, Mark, is taking part in the "World’s Greatest Shave" (WGS) and we, Blue Mountains Football Club, are fully supporting this worthy cause as well.

The WGS events planned at BMFC include the following.

A raffle to win a cricket bat signed by the entire NSW team.  This has been generously donated by Dave Gordon (ex-Prems coach extraordinaire) and has been signed by the likes of:

Michael Clarke (Australia’s cricket captain)
Pat Cummins (Good Local Boy and ex-BMFC junior player)

Moises Henriques

David Warner

Mitchell Starc

Brett Lee

Simon Katich

Usman Khawaja

Shane Watson

Phillip Hughes

Brad Haddin

Proceeds from the Saturdays BBQs of the trial game weekends will be donated to WGS … so bring your hungry stomachs to Knapsack!

A gold coin entrance fee donation for entry into Knapsack Park on Saturday, 16 March 2013 – up to you whether it is per person, per family or if you’d prefer to donate notes instead of coins!

A Donations Box will be set up in the Canteen for those who don’t partake in the BBQ, but would still like to play their part in helping this worthy cause.

As for Mark, below is what he’ll be doing.

I am taking part in the World’s Greatest Shave to help raise funds toward the Leukaemia Foundation. My 9 year old son Connor, who has played for Blue Mountains Football club since he was 5, was diagnosed with Leukaemia on 24th December and is undertaking treatment. It is so wrong for any child to get diagnosed with any form of cancer and I want to do something to raise a bit of money that will go toward research to one day have a 100% cure rate.

As the hair on my own noggin is limited at best, I have decided not shave the remainder off initially (as no one would probably notice)! Instead I am going to let my hair grow as much as I can between now and the 14th March. My daughter has told me before that I look like a clown when I let my hair grow, so I will dye it bright blue or red to highlight this unfortunate fact. I will keep it for a week and then shave it all off.

If you want to take part in the World’s Greatest Shave yourself this year, you can sign up and join my team ‘Inspired by Connor’ – you will find details on my page.

Thank you
