Match Report |
Second week in a row up to Summerhayes – this week against the div 1 graded Springwood team. With four out due to injury or other sporting clashes, James Teagle came and helped us out so that we could field a full team and played superbly well. Kane went in goal for the first half and did a great job, only letting one scrappy one in early. On the field, the Coach had deployed four at the back this week as was expecting to have to defend for long periods. Jake and Alex Mills were deployed as the centre backs and both were magnificent all game, covering each other well, timing their challenges and showing great desperation to keep the opposition out – well done boys. We did create chances of our own on the break – the most memorable being created down the left with Damo pulling the ball back to Eli, who hit it well but just over the bar. Eli’s work rate in the first half was enormous – helping out in defence and then pushing forward to help the lone striker James. James provided a great outlet for us up front, chasing many balls down and making the defenders work hard to get the all clear. Down the flanks Dom and Alex Cranbrook both had good games – one overlap run from Dom, interchanging with Damo in midfield saw Dom bursting forward into open space and getting a good cross in. Alex Cranbrook also worked tirelessly up and down the left hand side all game. Eli went in goal in the second half and made a number of excellent saves. Only one goal was conceded in the second half. Aiden provided calmness on the ball in the middle, regularly bringing the ball under control and selecting the right pass to get us moving forward. We got on top in the last ten minutes which was impressive as we had no subs and the pitch at Springwood is almost full size – on another day we would have scored a couple of late goals. An excellent fighting team performance which is exactly what the Coach had asked for and will stand us in good stead as we kick off the season next week. PoW for Alex Mills for outstanding effort in defence and then moving into centre midfield late on and driving us forward. |
