Match Report |
Parents, kids (and coach!) were all very excited and nervous ahead of our first game in division 1 after being regraded midweek. A beautiful morning saw us travel inter-state to South Windsor. Eli took the gloves in the first half and was solid as a rock. Jake too was very dependable in the centre of defence, with Con and Kane either side there was no way through. Finn, Ash, both Alex’s and Dom were strong in midfield which saw us dominate possession. We could not find a goal though as Bligh Park’s defence also very solid. Con went in goal in the second stanza and also kept a clean sheet. We created a number of chances – Finn had one left foot shot roll across the face of goal and then a piledriver saved by the face of the very good opposition goalkeeper. Aiden hit the bar with a header and Maeve used her pace to chase a through ball down and shoot just wide. Damo too beat the keeper but shot just wide. Bligh Park’s best chance came when Maeve gave a free kick away on the edge of the area. Every Blueys player on the goal line and Jake charged down the indirect free kick. With less than a minute to go we finally scored – Alex Cranbrook passed to Damo from wide on the left and Damo put Aiden away on goal. With just the keeper to beat, Mr Composure calmly rolled the ball away into the corner. An excellent grinding team performance to the end. PoW Kane for an excellent game in midfield and defence down the left.
