Match Report

The team was looking forward to another crack at a very good Springwood team. Eli was asked to play the whole game in goal and put in an excellent performance making some crucial saves, particularly in the second half.

Jake was a rock at the heart of defence in the first half and had the grazes on his upper leg to show for it after the game – the Knapsack dust bowl not being the most ideal pitch for sliding tackles. We were on top for the first 10 minutes or so but got caught on the break and a very good finish beat Eli. A second Springwood goal saw us 2-0 down at half time.

Coach reminded the team we had been 2-0 down at half time before and fought back and we were playing well enough to do it again – just work hard and get the first goal and we’ll be right back in it.

Ash had his best game of the season today, in the second half in the centre of midfield his work rate was enormous. This was rewarded with a goal for the team – Ash’s long range shot getting a deflection past the keeper. The equalizer was another own goal – Jake put a great corner in which was deflected into his own net by a defender.

The winner came after a ball was crossed into the box and not cleared properly and Jake was first to the ball to tap home.

Everyone played at the top of their game today which was just enough to get us home.

Kane was strong in defence and distributed well; Alex Mills excellent in both centre mid and centre back; Alex Cranbrook taking on defenders and beating them down the left on many occasions; Finn full of energy in centre mid and right back; Damo’s confidence on the ball and passing; Aiden came close to scoring and played well in centre of defence late on; Dom troubled the defence with his direct play and had a couple of shots saved.

Two players of the week – Ash for a first half down the left sending crosses in and a dominant second half centre midfield performance. Con shared the award – was very strong at right back and right midfield and pushed forward when the chance was given (almost scoring a header off a corner).

Well played boys, a great birthday present for a very proud Coach!
