Match Report

It was a dark and stormy morning that the Over 35 Fours took on Hazo at Lawson. GB and the Fox were away on foot spa duties, but the remaining guys were ready for the game ahead.

The whistle blew and both teams spent the first 10 minutes losing possession! After that though, we found our short pass range and began to maintain possession and make in-roads into the attacking half.

Hazo had a crowded backline and, whilst we had a number of opportunities, our first goal came off a 30 metre screamer! Nice one Dez. 1-0 saw out the first half.

The second half started with a little confusion in the backline (at least for me) and Hazo was able to capitalise with a header. Afterwards the team got back strongly to the short pass game, and began to dominate again.

In one particular skirmish, a ball played into Pirate popped up for Dez who balanced himself for the sweetest goal of the season so far. He hit the volley so sweetly that the ball hit the back of the net covered with icing sugar.

This is where the scoreline finished, but not the soccer! Slider had a blossoming relationship with a particular opposition striker that the Taxman described as a marriage … lots of talking but no-one listening! Bruce made one overcommitted-Disco very happy when he pulled out of a clearing kick late in the second half (the alternative being a Bruce clearance with an unconscious Disco)!

Whilst I can’t cross off anyone from the nudyrun list this week, I can add another keeper with a clean sheet (and a solid save to boot!): nicely done, Shotgun. It was like you were born for the job!

See you all at training so we can keep on improving on our strength … the short game!
