Match Report: It was a dark and stormy morning that the O35 3’s took to the field … possibly for the last time. We squared up at the whistle and took the game to the opposition. Whilst goals weren’t being scored, it were these early stages (of maintaining possession) that set us up.
It was Voldemordt who broke through first for a couple of very tidy goals prior to half time.
The second half began with two rapid fire goals for the Blueys, being rewarded for our persistence. GB too had a gigantuan game bagging four goals for the team. The net was lucky to contain Rusty’s strike and Crank pulled off the impossible angle to put one away as well.
Penrith did put a goal away but that’s enough said about that :). At this point it was 9-1 and the call came for Tomby to step up into the forward line (as God forbid, we’d have to see this man’s naked body if he didn’t score today!). And would you believe … within 5 minutes, Tomby was in position to take a strike on the ball that the keeper had just deflected. Swing and a miss!
Well, that wasn’t true. Tomby slotted this volley around the keeper and into the back of the net!!!!!!!!!!! There were tears as the team realised what this meant for them.
Lastly, but by no means least, The Boss was brought up to the front line. With the few seconds he had left in the game, he took the ball from half way, kicking and chasing his way around players on a straight course for the goal. At the edge of the box, he lined up and struck the ball beautifully! The ball rose to about chest height, by the time it reached the goals, and the keeper had to punch the shot away. Very unlucky Boss.
Great game all around the park. Solid defence, great support play and excellent passes through the line.
As it happens, the moons aligned and we later found out that we had made it to the grand final.
See everyone at training, for one last gigantuan push!!
