Match Report

After a tough game on Saturday amazingly 14 out of 15 of our squad turned up ‘fit’ and ready for our second game of the weekend. Only Rash was missing, attending his mandatory ‘How to Be Diplomatic During Competitive Team Sports’ monthly lecture. Pom was due to go too but putting those two in the same room for too long is just asking for trouble (and we needed someone to niggle the opposition)!

At the always highly anticipated starting line-up announcement, Coach Joe ‘Popovic’ McCaffrey initially fluffed his lines, unable to recall the decisions he’d made. There were a few raised eyebrows when Rash was named as centre forward – surprise not because he wasn’t actually there but for the fact that he couldn’t hit a barn door from three yards out!

The game was comfortably won, in summary:
– Forrest getting the first, chasing a Dunny through-ball to get there just ahead of the keeper
– The Pirate cracking home a volley from a JB corner before leaving early to take the family away on the high seas aboard the Jolly Roger for the school holidays
– Ice Man silencing the critics by scoring in open play (he was standing on the penalty spot when he struck the ball mind)
– Suarez getting in behind the defence to tuck one away past the keeper
– Ice Man completing his weekend hat-trick slotting home yet another penalty
– JB adding the final touch after Forrest chased down what initially looked like a lost cause ball into the corner.

PoM Marquee for an assured display at the heart of the defence and for not even thinking about taking the ball off Ice Man when we won a penalty.
