Match Report: Dad’s army marched up the hill once more to battle it out with Springwood. Regular readers will remember our envy at their tarmac car park and over sized changing room. What has changed in the two months since we last played here is the quality of our own Knapsack surface – the brown dead grass on the Springwood pitch gave us a wry smile as we knew we now had them covered in the ground maintenance department
With Kev the Keeper away, we had to resort to our reserve keeper, male gigolo Zap who has now plied his trade in every position. Braddles was given a run up front which Finals Football pointed out we therefore needed to hoof it forward early to our very own Mark Hately
A bright start was rewarded when Tolly’s corner curled straight in. Further goals came in the first twenty from JB placing one in the bottom corner and a Forrest bullet header from a Tolly corner that didn’t go straight in. A fourth before half time after Sean the Sheep had won the ball back on the edge of the box and put Braddles away to cross for Tolly to coolly finish
Winston’s half time talk was no doubt one of the easiest this season. Pom added that it was vital we keep a clean sheet, that a 4-0 result at full time would mean a lot as no one had let the team down by making a mistake. We all agreed
We created plenty of chances in the second half but only two more goals – both from Braddles, dancing round defenders and coolly finishing
The elusive clean sheet was within touching distance, we all just had to do our bit. Pom then blatantly scythed with a cynical two footed challenge the centre forward who was never going to score from there. Penalty awarded and Pom received the Gouda we think simply because he was annoying the ref. Pom then seemed to march himself off toward the sideline, we all thought he had been sent off
Deuce Bigalow went the right way for the penalty but the ball went under his body. Deuce had a great game today and would be pressing claims for a starting spot had he managed to replicate Kev the Keeper’s famous double fisted punch in the game
