Match Report: After a long rain interrupted break, the Blue Mountains Over 35-1’s were ready to welcome their opposition to a liberally irrigated Knapsack Park. The boys from Glenmore Park had heard rumours about the ground once known affectionately as “Downtown Kabul”. Unfortunately they came unprepared with their all-weather all condition indoor soccer boots. Much to their dismay they were greeted with a field more green than Pommy when he heard of Davy Hayman’s selection in the Jambaroo Team.

A few men down, notably Hawkesbury who is still trapped in the top car of a broken down ferris wheel at the fair two weeks ago. Fortunately we were able to enlist the support between the sticks of our long term friend, Derek (the Angler) Page. There were a few moments of doubt as the barometer starting tipping 1010 at 9am, but fortunately the wind picked up which is “not good for fishing”, in the words of the goalkeeper himself. So he set himself to the task of catching shots, and crosses instead of his much preferred Bass.

Pommy was uncharacteristically late, having been given a false address on his long standing quest to deliver a set of football boots and shin pads to Chris Ackerley. Fortunately he arrived in time to not only get ready on time, but also to annoy the few remaining players getting ready in the changing room.

The players warmed up, looking around nervously due to the absence of coach and director of confidence, Joe. We were informed that he has embarked on a last minute scouting expedition to the North East of England. Reports are sketchy, but we are looking forward to the likes of Shearer, Gascgoine and Beardlsey joining our ranks in 2016. This will provide a huge boost to the beer fund as Gazza has confirmed he will be joined by his long standing reeve Jimmy Five Bellies. Move over Scotty Shields.

Zap, as usual, steps into a much needed role at a crucial time and with the help of his App, takes over team rotations. Young Sean Burns provides the inspirational team talk and Joe McCaffery is a thing of distant memory.

The game begins. Something about the team talk obviously worked. Chicken, inspired by the lack of derision in Sean’s team talk, steps up after 5 minutes and burgles a goal from the sweeper. Tail up and looking dangerous, follows this up 5 minutes later with a beautiful volley which left the keeper no chance. Kudos to Joey Crye for the through ball on this.
Blueys seemingly cruising to an easy win, seemed to forget how to co-ordinate their foot with the accelerator. A sniper attack on Danny Margetts, and a couple of other casualties left the Blueys wondering if they were going to run out of personnel. Glenmore sniffed the opportunity and finished the second half stronger, denied a couple of half opportunities. By this stage Derek (the Angler) Page had clearly gotten his mind around the fact that there was nothing going in his net today….

Second half. Things change. Blueys decide that it is their game to control and proceed to do so. Another goal by Chicken, to complete his hatrick and it’s 3-0. Notable assist by Paul McCarten. Then Paul goes down in the box and is awarded a penalty which Mick C converts with panache. 4-0 and we have control. The subsequent 35 pass medley breaks Glenmore Park and we can start looking forward to the coldies in the fridge.

Aside from a couple of back line hospital passes it is all plain sailing and uneventful from here.

A huge thank you to The Angler for a faultless performance between the sticks. A good tempered enjoyable Sunday afternoon was had by all. Thanks also to Glenmore Park for a game that probably didn’t require a referee.
