Player of the Match: The Shadow

Match Report: A 2.30pm start this week and a large portion of the team willed the day away at Lennox, stocking up on fruit and veg. It was a pleasant drive up to Hazo as the Bicentennial Nation Building Better Roads Project was finally completed after what seemed like 17 years of roadwork.

Dunny, having just returned from midweek heart surgery, was under instruction to remain calm and not get involved in any stressful situations; time would tell. He had a big squad with 16 out of 17 available, Hazo on the other hand were a bit depleted with 3 upgrades although they did have a small support crew on the hill that would get more annoying and involved as the match progressed. We started strongly with Lowndsey peppering the Hazo goal with a variety of approaches, head, left foot, right foot, volley until he beat the offside trap and side footed one in the corner after faking the keeper. Dunny was about to enact his cunning plan, which involved giving The Shadow a well-deserved rest, until Paul went down with a mysterious Manly Conference Injury that occurred 65 minutes too early throwing the plan into disarray. 1 nil going into the break.

At half time Dunny emptied the bench, we continued where we left off, 10 minutes in The Dentist and Suarez combined to put us two nil up (Dunny patted himself on the back for that piece of squad rotation.) As regular readers will know 2 nil is dangerous lead and for us it can be panic inducing.

It is hard to do the chaotic final fifteen minutes justice and best summed up by Dunny’s text late on Sunday night.
