Match Report: A positively sparkly, sunny Saturday out on the sidelines today as our team of legends showed up ready to play.
Between last-minute changed holiday plans and availability from our younger teams, we found ourselves navigating the very uncommon situation of having reserves today! And our new football friends; Thomas, Thomas and Leo made having a reserve bench an absolute dream. They not only fitted in like family, but all brought their respective A-games!
Half one started seamlessly, with the majority of time spent in our attacking half. Some beautiful footwork and passing in the mids by Daniel, Bentley & Riley ensured our forward line, Ronan & Travis, were given plenty of goal opportunities. A shout out to the opposing goalie on a solid first half string of saves, but the drought was finally broken by a clean shot to the back of the nets by Travis.
Our impenetrable defensive lineup of Harry, Nicky & Olly got to push up and flex their tackling and clearance skills closer to the midline for a lot of today’s game play, proving that they are a force to be reckoned with on all corners of the ground.
A few changes later and the fresh legs of Ciaran and Leo brought the speed that opened up a goal opportunity for Bentley, taking us into the break 2-0.
The strength and determination of our Blueys never faltered going into the second half, with the pressure placed constantly on the opposing team. The ever-growing bond between our team resulted in some flawless passing and adaptive position playing to allow for the novelty of having reserves today. This team cohesion and knowledge of each other’s game style allowed the ball to be funnelled cleanly to our open wing, giving Leo the opportunity to net his hat trick in the second half.
A wonderful game to watch and testament to the hard work of the boys and their steely determination each week. Our player of the match today going to Olly for his increased defensive presence and decisive tackles.
