Match Report: For those lucky enough to make the trip up the hill on this sunny Winter’s day, we got to witness magic. As the culmination of a rough few weeks saw the boys show up with the drive, the passion, the determination and most importantly, the goods.

A late field change (thanks “bomb cyclone”) and a mad scramble for some additional players, saw us welcome Leonard and Arlo from the under 10’s into our football family this week, allowing us to avoid what looked like an imminent forfeit. But our boys took all the chaos in their stride and came out as a unified team, firing on all 4 cylinders from the first whistle.

A heavily fought game in the attacking half, saw a lot of passing and denied shots on goals until Bentley broke the stalemate and started the goals coming. Clean tackles in the mid from Leonard, Harry, Bentley and Daniel saw the ball constantly in our forward half and gave our forward line, Ronan, Travis & Gabriel plenty of game play and goal opportunities.

Not to be overlooked in a quiet back half today, Nicky managed to take control of the few stray plays sent his way and cleared the ball back within whiskers of the goal square, seemingly with ease.

The first half saw us enter the break comfortably with a 6-0 lead after Travis flexed his hat trick skills once more (resulting in yet another cartwheel attempt from an overly passionate manager) Daniel showed quick thinking and ninja-like reflexes to seize a rebound off the goalie and take the opportunity to clear the ball straight back into the net whilst Leonard sealed the deal on a spectacular dribble down the length of the field.

Despite the fatigue evident from a lack of reserves, our team continued to play with determination into the second half. Powerful and decisive tackles, many by our very worthy player of the match today, Daniel, ensured we maintained possession and dominated the game play throughout. A few heart-breaking near misses that might usually have shaken our drive, were merely dusted off today, with the team working like a well-oiled machine, maintaining the momentum and feeling confidence in our growing abilities.

The boys rounded out the game with a further 5 goals, all hard fought and well deserved to finish the game with the biggest win in our league so far this season. From potential forfeit to an uplifting success story, the boys should hold their heads high with pride tonight.
