Match Report |
It was a dark and stormy afternoon that the AA5’s returned to the Knapsack Stadium to take on Penrith FC. In the first round, this team had our measure but in the second round they didn’t and that was good to see! The draw felt like a win as we chased down 3 goals all scored from free kicks. Nathan was the first out of the blocks and absolutely ripped the first goal home. [Whilst Nathan has two goals under his belt, the team have voted to still keep him on the nudy run until a further goal is scored. Something about the incentive keeps him scoring’]!! The first 20 minutes was all Blueys – brilliant. Then Disco came on and we found ourselves 2-1 down! 2 free kicks were put away in quick succession and our "wall forming ability" came under scrutiny. This was resolved at half time. A third opposition free kick goal was scored at some point and this only served to put some more fire in our bellies! I need to squeeze in a mention of BK’s attempt at goal too – which hit the cross bar. Very unlucky. Getting control of the game again – eventually resulted in a penalty in our favour. The free kick came from high in the sky to land on the defensive line where Niall and I were shopping our wares. Launching high into the sky we were able to swindle the keeper into pushing the ball into the back of the net for us. Some further attacking play saw a ball played into the opposition’s goal box for Balls, and the challenge on him made the Eureka Stockade look like a roll in the park. Crank sent the ball from the spot to the back of the net with style. Whilst the score stayed at 3-3 from this point forward, there were three further chances: 1. The Tingles "no angle is too fine" shot from the side of the goal box – running away from the goal to get any touch on the ball, he managed to send the ball on a trajectory that saw it hit the upright as a very near miss!! 2. Crusty free kick, Balls gets a touch in the air to put the ball into Disco’s line – running toward the goal Disco tries to judge the path of the ball and shin kicks the balls at a depressing rate of knots to the keeper. 3. Last but least, Luke (with fire in his belly) says to Crusty … this is it – get everyone up the field – I can get this ball to the other end of the field – manages to duff it, never have you seen a ball better played to the opposition striker – but the striker also duffs the opportunity, scared out of his wits at the sight of the No 1 coming at him with all ferocity of a Blue Mountain Panther, spittle dripping from his maw. Luke contributed massively toward the result today with a direct penalty save as well as a massive save in the second half. Denty also gained mega points towards the "Le Crank" trophy 2013! In true Denty style he put it all back in check to give a solid second half. What changed since the first game? Surely some combination of the following: everyone working hard for each other; challenging every throw in and goal kick to take our fair share of the possession; Crusty’s training session talk two weeks ago; and the spittle dripping from the No 1’s maw! It was good to see Liam on the mend and to show him how awesome his team is! (Apparently me telling him over and over just didn’t do it)! Great game guys. Let’s bring it to the next game; let’s continue to work for each other; let’s leave it all on the park; and not in the car-park 😉 |
