Match Report: We headed to Cougar Park for what we expected to be another tough contest again Colo. They are always a determined team and this proved to be the case again today. Despite only having 10 players they stuck to the task at hand and proved very difficult to get past.

We settled into the game well and started knocking it around with precision and skill, using every bit of football paraphernalia we have. After applying some good pressure through team passing football, Will Foreman fed Lachlan “Doc” Jones a fine ball. The young man with more nicknames than an Australian cricket team, used his skill to cut the ball back inside and get a shot away which was too difficult for the keeper to handle. A well deserved goal.

Whilst we continued to have the better of the possession, Colo threatened with a number of tricky long balls booted into our defensive zone. Will Cooke, Luke, “Scooooooobes” and Jacob handled these attacking balls extremely well, including working the ball out with great composure and skill. Some presses forward of our own failed to bring us another goal so it was 1-0 at half time.

With most of the possession in the second half we looked like grabbing another goal on many occasions only to see the attack break down at the last pass. At the same time Colo had a few chances, including one fine shot superbly pushed away by Robbie and a missed penalty kick. Having drawn with Colo, after dominating the play and giving away a late goal, the last time we visited Cougar Park, we were getting very nervous that it was going to be a case of, “Here we go again!”

We regained our composure, played fine team passing football and were rewarded with two late goals, one to Gus and one through a fine left-footed finish from Lachlan Bowe. It was a fine win and to be fair we probably deserved a couple more goals.

Zach Kingsford was given a run up front and made the most of the opportunity, Will Foreman played a fine game in the midfield and Lachlan “Muppet” Jones played his best game for a while, providing many precision passes to his teammates in both defence and attack. Robbie was once again rock solid in goals, playing very well positionally. Man of the Match goes to Will Cooke on the back of the way he handled the Colo long ball, often using his skill to thread the ball out and then pass expertly to a teammate.

It was a confident and controlled team effort with everyone making a contribution. It was a good solid win although, as I said to the boys at full time, an earlier second goal would have made for a more relaxing morning for yours truly!
