Pitt Town Sports FC: 3
BMFC Goal Scorers: Liam
Player of the Match: Liam (2), Eli
Match Report: We set off early for the inter-State trip, some even camping out the night before at Pitt Town’s ground
Liam was Captain for the day & played as the lone target man for the first half. We had plenty of possession, Millsy & Dom working hard in central midfield to win the ball. Finn got forward down the right hand side regularly, getting crosses in & winning a number of corners. We fell behind to a goal on the break & regular readers will know that being behind in the first half is when we feel most comfortable. Demonstrating how they can lift the intensity when behind we hit back with two goals from Liam. The first was a really well struck left foot shot that had too much power over the keepers head. The second following a well taken Jake corner that was not cleared and Liam pounced to pass in.
Aidan got his hand to a cross/shot that if he had not would have fell for the opposing striker to roll in. Ash got through one on one near the end of half and beat the keeper with his shot but unfortunately the post also.
Finn put the gloves on for the second half and gave the coach heart palpitations when he came out of his box into the defensive line to clear!
Noticing that we were still ahead in the second half the boys duly allowed the opposition to score two quick goals to squarely put the pressure on ourselves in the closing minutes.
From the kick off a training ground drill almost resulted in a goal. Ball knocked back for Millsy or Aidan (can’t recall) to send long into the corner, Eli winning the 50/50 putting Jake in on goal, his shot just going wide.
We equalized soon after following a shot from Ash was blocked and fell to Eli to cleverly curl in.
Aidan showed his ability to pick a pass, playing in team mates behind the defence from his holding midfield role.
We pressed well in the closing minutes but just couldn’t find a way through.
The boys played really well today & it was noticeable that the two specific things we had worked on in training this week were on show – i) head the ball / make sure you get something on it& ii) throw ins down the line to turn the opposition around every time. Well done boys, great to see.
Player of the week to Liam for his excellent work rate up front & two goals, the first a cracker on his weaker foot.
Photo: Liam’s hard work up front was duly rewarded with two goals.
