Match Report

A game that showcased everything that is great about Junior Football. It had skill, toughness, end to end action, and a result that wasn’t decided until the final minutes. Nicholas Giles made many powerful runs up front, while midfielders Connor Stanners, Aiden Morgan and POTW Fraser Brown gave us a solid platform to build many attacks. We got the ball into the opposition penalty area many times but just couldn’t find the back of the net. Brilliant defensive play by Gieran Vowels, Fletcher Allison, and Brandan Dejonge kept their attacks to a minimum and despite the low scoreline, the game was a pure pleasure to witness. Heading into the final ten minutes, an act of bravery, skill and determination by Star Defender Timothy Kniha had the players and crowd totally stunned in amazement. A St Clair attacker broke through our defence and pushed the ball past advancing Goalkeeper Joshua Cox. Josh did everything perfectly but the ball went past and was goalward bound. Tim had sprinted back, and just as the ball was on the goal line, he slid in and somehow hooked the ball into the clear, totally ignoring his personal safety. As a Coach of 13 years Junior Football, it was one of the most memorable moments! Heading into the final minutes, an usually hot day and many of the boys competing in School Cross Country the previous day, we had a few seconds of tiredness where we conceded the deciding goal. Whilst we were disappointed with the Result, we’d played fifty minutes of intense, skillful football against talented opposition and lost by the narrowest of margins. A Draw would of been a fairer result but hopefully it all evens out over a Season. An absolutely awesome effort by the Squad of 13 boys on the day!!!
