Match Report

Despite being seated well down in the Division, the mood within the Camp remained bouyant. Lots of smiles and laughs at training, with the belief we're actually a better team than recent results suggested.

Poor SMC were to be the team that had to stand and watch as we played some superb football. A lightening quick break in the first half released Chris Edwards who streaked towards goal, kept his usual cool head and unleased a ferocious shot from just inside the penalty box. The Coach would normally suggest just sliding it past the advancing goalie, but this was just as effective and far more spectacular.

The one- nil lead at half time was well deserved!

The second half and the boys really turned on the style. Tristan Watson displayed his incredible stamina and Tim Wohlers-Reichel played several positions extremely well. Tim Kniha again showed his toughness, challenging successfully for every ball in the air.

The second goal was a delight and straight off the training paddock. Isaac Morris worked a quick corner to Phil Talbot who with the added advantage of a decent angle, powered a hard low ball into the crowded penalty area. It created havoc, bouncing everywhere until Kali Ferris-Smith managed to steer it into the net. Phillip Talbot added the third, he rarely misses the target and this was another nicely taken goal.

Keeping a clean sheet at any Age or Division is always something to be proud of, and Liam Holmes, Gueren Vowels, Brandan Dejonge and Kali Ferris-Smith should pat themselves on the back after this defensive effort. Liams overlapping runs from fullback won him a share of POTW with Chris Edwards.

After the game, the opposition coach commented that we're a very disciplined side. Our game is certainly built on team effort, toughness, and determination. It's not enough to win us the Comp but we'll pick up alot of points along the way and have fun doing it.
