Match Report

Holidays and illness had a big effect on our squad numbers as we prepared to take on Comp Leaders, Colo.

With players enjoying vacations in wonderful locations like Norway and Alice Springs, and others suffering measles and other nasties, we were down to seven players. Angus Langworthy bravely played with six stitches in his arm from a dog attack.

Connor Ansell and Riley Birt kindly made the long trip out to Inalls Lane and we managed to field a team. Both players are very talented and what was to follow was a pure pleasure to watch.

From the opening whistle we started brightly and created several chances that we just failed to put in the net. Harry Burns tormented their defence constantly, Jack Higgins was at his usual brilliant best and Heath Stanners showed off a huge range of skills, running and tough tackling. Early in the game Heath took a hard head knock, but after a little bit of treatment, bravely played on. This kid is as tough as they come!

Aiden Monaco ran up and down the wings for the full fifty minutes, once again his accuracy in passing is a feature of his game. His ever growing number of supporters seem to thoroughly enjoy watching him in action!

The First Half ended 1-1, Jack Higgins the goalscorer.

The Second Half was just as entertaining and we really had hopes of causing the upset of the year! Several chances were missed and the Post and a handball on the line spoiled any chance of an upset.

Colo netted twice in the final ten minutes and sadly the game slipped away from us. After the game, the Colo Coach and Manager both praised our boys saying we were by far the best footballing team, and really enjoyed playing us.

All nine boys were heroes as they really did put in an amazing effort, to what originally seemed a one-sided contest.
