Match Report 12.5 – 8 May, 2004
After an even first 20 minutes, Blue Mountains took control. Their attacking pressure resulted in well taken goals by Steven and Michael and the forwards were well supported by Steven, Corey, Liam, Nathaniel, Mitchell C, Ben and Mitchell H with fine runs from midfield.
The first half started with Blue Mountains defending well, with Steven, Nathaniel, Ferrett and Michael clearing the ball well whenever Colo came forward. Goalkeeper James was called upon only once when he cleared well. Forwards Brenton and Aden kept the Colo defence under pressure and were well supported by Mitchell C, Corey, Liam and Ben in midfield.
As the half progressed, Blue Mountains pressure increased. Aden had one shot go just wide and another saved. After a good run from midfield, Corey crossed only to see the Colo goalkeeper save at Brenton’s feet. Nathaniel also provided a good cross after a fine run from midfield, while Mitchell C put over a cross from the right which was well saved by the Colo goalkeeper. However the pressure did not produce results and the teams went in goalless at half time.
The second half continued the same pattern with Blue Mountains continuing to dominate possession and territory. Michael moved into attack and Mitchell H came onto the field in midfield. Mitchell H had two good runs up the left then Corey had a shot go just wide. Liam provided two good crosses to Michael, one resulting in a save by the Colo goalkeeper. Finally, after further pressure by Ben and Michael, the ball went back to Steven on the edge of the penalty area whose well-placed shot went over the goalkeeper’s head into the back of the net.
Blue Mountains continued the attacking pressure, with Liam and Ben winning corners. After another attacking spell, Ben put across the ball to Michael in front of goal whose shot gave the goalkeeper no chance.
