Match Report 12.5 – 31 July, 2004

BMSC 1
vs
St Clair Blue 2
Match Report A close, hard fought game which could have gone either way. St Clair had the advantage in the first half, going in at half-time one goal up. Blue Mountains fought back well in the second half, mounting many attacks which resulted in Mitchell C scoring a great goal and the boys were unlucky not to at least get a draw.

In the first half, Blue Mountains defended well with backs Ferret, Michael, Mitchell H and Aden tackling and clearing well and a solid performance from stand-in goalkeeper Alexander. Midfielders Corey, Liam and James played well but were up against a strong St Clair midfield which resulted in limited service to forwards Brenton and Ben. St Clair scored a goal late in the half to give them a one-nil lead at the break.

Blue Mountains changed tactics to a more direct approach in the second half, putting Corey in attack alongside Brenton. Despite a breakaway goal from St Clair early in the half, these tactics paid off with a series of Blue Mountains attacks. One such attack started with a fine run from midfield by Mitchell H, beating several St Clair players. He passed the ball to Mitchell C who was supporting well, whose strong shot beat the St Clair goalkeeper to reduce the deficit to one goal.

Blue Mountains continued to push balls through to forwards Corey and Brenton. One big clearance from goalkeeper Alexander was picked up by Corey near the half-way line. He took the ball through to the penalty area and his shot beat the goalkeeper but went just wide of the far post. Corey picked up another clearance from James and again ran upfield beating several defenders, this time his shot being saved by the St Clair goalkeeper. However the attacks were to no avail, with St Clair winning the game by one goal.
