Match Report

Was a great sunny day at Knapsack, with only a minimal amount of ash from the nearby back-burning falling onto us as our game commenced.

The team brought the same level of intensity out onto the pitch from last week which was really pleasing to see.

Our plan to control the ball movements, playing out wide from defence and then execute good passes into the middle in our attacking half was followed and provided the platform for us to create some great early opportunities to score but unfortunately we just weren’t able to put the ball into the back of the net.

We kept pressing and eventually started to finish off our hard work with some good goals.

Alex led from the front and scored a great hat-trick.

Aidan displayed his great ball skills and got on the score sheet again this week.

Martin also scored again this week and Will was able to capitalise on some good work to score a great goal.

Goals of week however went to both Hamish and Corin.

Hamish’s a long distance shot from just shy of the half way line in front of goals, sailed high above the goalkeepers head and into the goals. I hope there wasn’t a GWS Giants talent scout watching as Hamish has a trademark prodigious kick which would be put to great use in the AFL one day I’m sure.

Corin’s goal was super impressive, as from about 20 yards out, he shielded the ball from an opponent with his back to goals, then pushed it out wide and turned, swinging the kick around his body. It was a sweet hit and the ball glided through the air with intent, directly into the top corner of the goals. Equally as impressive was the goal celebration.

Great stuff all you goal scorers, keep it up!

The other main focus for us is our defensive marking and while we are really improving, we still at times let the opposition have too much space and they were able to score a few goals as a result.

Having said that, there were some great defensive acts but the stand out was Issy who saved us on so many occasions when we’d given the opposition space in their attacking half. She was able to shut down two and three Blaxland attackers on her own and deserved Player of the Week: well done Issy!

A special mention to Lachie F who played an outstanding game, always executing the right pass and had some great passages where space opened up for him and was able to run with the ball, with perfect positioning to create a great opportunity to score late in the game. Great game Lachie!

Kynan had another great game and his skill and ball control is improving every week – great stuff Ky!

Our goal keepers this week, Josh and Luke were outstanding, both executing their roles brilliantly with great saves and quick plays out wide. Great work guys!

Good game team!
