Match Report: After meeting at Knapsack for our team photo (Greg, Steve, Will F and Luke couldn’t make the shot which is a shame as they would have lifted the standard significantly! Fortunately, we DID still have “Scallop’s” good looks to rely upon!) we ducked up the hill for our ‘home game’ against Colo. The boys seemed to be determined to make amends for the first round draw at Cougar Park.

With all players back on deck the pressure was on the coach to make the most of the extra players whilst maintaining team formation and fluency. It did give many players the chance to play in a range of different positions and they held it together well.

After a composed start to the game, Gus once again gave us an early lead with a fine finish from the edge of the box. We were passing well and controlling the play to press forward with most of the play in Colo’s half of the field. It wasn’t long before Heath pounced to capitalise on a goal keeping error. The result was “seal(lion)ed” early in the second half when “The Cassowary” duplicated Heath’s efforts in following through enthusiastically to claim a good goal off a keeping error.

Despite many excellent passing combinations, we were unable to snatch another goal. Lachie Bowe was given a chance up front and was desperately unlucky not to grab at least one. Billy and Jacob also threatened to knock one in.

Overall we were hungrier and certainly quicker to claim contested ball. Strong defense at the back and excellent positional keeping by Robbie meant that Colo didn’t really threaten to score for most of the match.

Zack Kingsford grabs Man of the Match honours through some excellent defensive work, fine ball control and accurate passing.

Will F and “Scoooooooobes” were rock solid in the middle of the defensive line. With fine games from Luke, Gus, Will C , Aidan and Heath, and all players putting in a determined effort, it was a well-deserved win.

Lachlan “Frilled-Neck Lizard” Jones and Sean “Don’t Mess With Me” Higgins both hopefully learnt that getting involved in anything other than the football is not wise, and is not acceptable.

Congratulations and thanks to stand in “Super-Manager” Danielle who now has a 100% success rate. Thanks also to Darren Kingsford who stepped into the Ground Official role for us at St John’s.
