Player of the Match: Jacob

Match Report: A tough opponent today that we had some good battles with last season including an elimination semi

With Keastie out, James slotted into left back and did a great job in the first half, having to cope with a tricky winger

We started well, continuing on from last week’s performance, some great movement and dominating possession. A goal was needed to make the most of this and it eventually came about 15 in – an Aidy free kick from his own half fell to Martin who moved it to Jacob in the box. Jacob played a super short pass to Ethan who was running onto it to beat the keeper with a great left foot finish

RSL worked their way back into it after this and had a few half chances though Eli was solid behind any shots and quick off his line to clean up well. Late in the half as an RSL player got in behind us, Martin chased back and made a brilliantly timed tackle in the box – over zealous penalty appeals turned away by the ref as the ball had been won cleanly

Jake went to centre forward for the start of the second half and had a couple of good chances – one free kick from fully 30 yards tipped onto the bar and Alex L unlucky not to tuck the rebound away

More chances came and went – Alex L getting time and space on the left – but we couldn’t find a second. RSL were still dangerous – Max clearing off the line with a header from a corner

We finally found a second as in-form Ethan slotted his second from the edge of the box

The one percenters were the difference today – last ditch tackles, a header off the line and this typified how we have played the last couple of weeks – good ball movement in possession & working hard for each other without the ball

Lots of great performances today – James, Alex L, Jake, Damo to name a few but Jacob was my player of the match today – new to the team this year Jacob has fitted in well, his ball skills are excellent but I have noticed how hard he has been working at training the last couple of weeks as well as in games. His skill and hard work combined today for a fantastic individual performance
