Match Report

A scoreless draw but as exciting as any match we’ve played in this season. Both teams went into it having won 3, and lost 3, so we knew it would be finely balanced. The ground was one of the few to remain open after days of constant rain, and the English Coach reminded the boys that the field was lovely and soft, and perfect for big tackles.

Tom Bowden led the way with the first big hit, a crunching tackle in defence, then running 20 yards with the ball to put us on the attack. Timothy Kniha, Fletcher Allison, and Cameron Haywood all weighed in with bruising defence. Gieran Vowels showed incredible bravery in the air, winning absolutely every contest.

Goalkeeper Joshua Cox takes his training and learning very seriously and produced a perfect performance. His timed runs to the edge of the penalty area cleared danger on many occassions. When kicking a ball, he can now nearly reach the half way line, wonderful for a 12 year old boy.

Fraser Brown seems to be enjoying his football and was actively involved. The game was such an intense struggle in the middle of the park, we found it hard to give many good though balls to our forward speedstars Nick Giles and Tristan Watson.

Overall a wonderful game of football, neither team deserved to lose and a point each was a fair result. Congratulations to the entire squad of 14 for a great effort!

GIERAN VOWELS…you’d think he was 6 feet tall the way he heads a ball!
