Match Report: It was a warm and windy afternoon at Summerhayes Park for our clash with an under strength Springwood who had no subs, compared to our three.

With Zach Kingsford away on school camp and Greg “Supercoach” Bowe away on other family commitments, it was time for one and all to step up, and step up the boys did!

From the outset it was a tremendous team effort, putting into practice the positive team structure and football Greg has guided us towards playing. Excellent possession football. Fine positional play and covering of each other. Consistent winning of contested ball. Composure in defence. Determination in attack.

Our passing game built pressure and momentum and led to a hat trick of goals for Billy Moar who made the most of his opportunity to have a run up front. His speed and determination were too much for the opposition to handle.

Special mentions go to Will Foreman who was fast and strong in the midfield, Luke Doughty who made some terrific incisive runs from defence, Zach “Scoooooobes” Scoble who distributed the ball forward superbly when under pressure and Heath Stanners who dominated the middle of the park in attack.

Much to his surprise, Robbie Churchill was given a chance to have a run. As he does when keeping, he was full of energy and creativity and was unlucky not to snatch a goal for himself!

Aidan Monaco earned Man of the Match honours on the back of numerous fine attacking runs down the left side, as well as some excellent defensive work. His skill on the ball and decision making were outstanding.

Making the most of our corners and using both sides of the field to create space (even when the wind pushes us to one side) are two areas for improvement we can work.

The most pleasing aspect of this very good win was perhaps how much the boys enjoyed playing skilful team football.

It was a fine performances across the park this week, which gives us a fabulous basis to build upon in the coming weeks.
