Match Report: It’s great to be back for season 2018. A big thank you to all on the BMFC Committee for the tremendous work you have all done in preparing for the season, especially Sandy who has done an amazing job of helping us find training facilities to use. We can’t thank you all enough! [BMFC Editor’s Note: You’re welcome].

After putting in strong trial game performances against Blaxland 16/2’s and BMFC 15/1’s, we travelled to Cougar Park for our first match of the season proper.

With yours truly absent on refereeing duties for the start of the game it was left to Captain Gus and “Super Coach” Greg to get the boys ready to take the field. It turned out to be a good tactic as the boys hit the ground running!

We quickly settled into playing fine team football. Moving the ball about with skill and good awareness saw us take control of the game early. Impressive switches and fine passing were the order of the day. It really was impressive football!

With instructions to “have a shot if you get a sniff at goal”, Sean, Heath and Gus all unloaded with fine shots! Lachlan “Eric” Jones tried to convert a half chance via a rabona but it didn’t end so well! Great to see Eric being creative and giving it a go though!

Our first goal of the season was a fine controlled effort from Gus who cut through the defence, positioned himself well and slotted the ball expertly past the keeper!

Despite continuing to play good football we were unable to grab another goal. A late goal to Colo motivated us to really push forward but the final result remained a solid 1-1 draw.

We took the opportunity in our first game to try some players in different positions which meant we probably lost a bit of shape at times but this will stand us in good stead as the season progresses.

“Scoooooobes” earned Man of the Match honours with some fine defensive work and deft passing from the back. He had it on a string!!

He was well backed up by fine performances from Gus, Chris, Will Foreman and Will Cooke. Billy also played very well in his first full time game back with this group of boys. It’s great to have you back!

The final score was perhaps not a true reflection of the quality of football played by each team but that’s how football goes sometimes.

It was a really positive first up effort with many good signs of things to come. The boys seemed to thoroughly enjoy playing fine team football. It’s going to be another terrific season!
