Match Report: A chance to pit our wits against the team leading the comp

Lyn had given the boys a great pre-match warm up as usual. Coach’s instructions were clear – start this game with the intensity we normally take a good half to work up to – let’s try & score first for a change!

Alex was rewarded with the Captaincy following his great performance the week before

We competed well from the first whistle – clearly the pre-match warm up & words had been taken on board.  We were rewarded with the first goal – a ball played in behind the defence was only half cleared by the keeper & Dom hit it beautifully first time from the edge of the box & it sailed into the net

In defence Aidan & Liam were both playing well, winning and then passing out down the flanks. Finn took a knock to his knee & it was good to see the boys work out a re-shuffle moving Finn to centre back & Sam into the midfield

Unfortunately Colo equalized and then went ahead on the stroke of half time. I think the boys just feel more comfortable being behind at half time!

The more the second half wore on the more we started getting in behind the opposition defence. Aidan had been moved to a holding midfield role, allowing Eli, Chris, Ash & Damo to push forward & support lone striker Dom. Eli played Ash in down the left & after riding the first challenge was clipped in the box by the cover defender. Aidan stepped out & coolly planted the spot kick firmly away to the keepers left

We soaked up the oppositions pressure well, centre back pairing Millsy & Sam were exceptional as was Will at left back. Jake was solid as ever in goal, cleaning up anything that got through

We continued to get in behind the defence & Ash finished sharply two further goals in the last five minutes to seal another excellent come from behind performance

PoW awarded to Aidan – super defence at right back in the first half, played the holding/distributing role asked of him in the second and capped it all with a goal
